The following are the main steps in buying a used yacht for sale whether it is your first or fifth yacht:
- Work with an experienced yacht broker who knows the used yachts for sale market.
- Decide the used yacht price range you want or need to stay in.
- If financing your yacht purchase, have your financing in order before proceeding.
- Make sure you have a reputable marine financing company with a proven record of satisfaction.
- Find what yacht manufacturers and designs work for you and locate all used yachts for sale in your price range.
- Compare prices and conditions to make sure you get the best used yacht buy available.
- Submit an offer and possible counteroffers.
- Once an offer is accepted, survey and sea trial the used yacht, having a highly-qualified marine surveyor to make sure the used yacht is as advertised.
- Possible negotiations with seller after survey (make any adjustments agreed on).
- Close the deal (making sure everything is in place, i.e., funds, insurance, vessel registration or documentation, survey reports, etc.).
